Description
Enables adenosylmethionine decarboxylase activity. Involved in pantothenate biosynthetic process; spermidine biosynthetic process; and spermine biosynthetic process. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in lung non-small cell carcinoma. Orthologous to human AMD1 (adenosylmethionine decarboxylase 1).
Catalyzes the decarboxylation of S-adenosylmethionine, a key step in the biosynthetic pathway for spermidine and spermine. It is essential for normal growth, sporulation, and maintenance of ds-RNA virus.
Highly accurate protein structure prediction with AlphaFold. Nature. 2021 Aug;596(7873):583-589. DOI:10.1038/s41586-021-03819-2. PMID:34265844; PMCID:PMC8371605
