Description
Please note that currently there is no data available in PubChem associated with Synj1 - synaptojanin 1 (Norway rat). However, annotations from external sources are available.
Enables phosphatase activity and protein domain specific binding activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of gliogenesis; positive regulation of receptor-mediated endocytosis; and response to retinoic acid. Located in microtubule and synaptic membrane. Part of clathrin coat of coated pit. Is active in parallel fiber to Purkinje cell synapse and presynapse. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Parkinson's disease; Parkinson's disease 20; and developmental and epileptic encephalopathy 53. Orthologous to human SYNJ1 (synaptojanin 1).

Phosphatase that acts on various phosphoinositides, including phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate, phosphatidylinositol (4,5)-bisphosphate and phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-trisphosphate (PMID: 8552192). Has a role in clathrin-mediated endocytosis (PMID: 9428629). Hydrolyzes PIP2 bound to actin regulatory proteins resulting in the rearrangement of actin filaments downstream of tyrosine kinase and ASH/GRB2 (By similarity).
