Description
This gene encodes the protein core of a seminal plasma proteoglycan containing chondroitin- and heparan-sulfate chains. The protein's function is unknown, although similarity to thyropin-type cysteine protease-inhibitors suggests its function may be related to protease inhibition. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Enables calcium ion binding activity; cysteine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity; and metalloendopeptidase inhibitor activity. Involved in negative regulation of cell-substrate adhesion; negative regulation of endopeptidase activity; and negative regulation of neuron projection development. Located in extracellular space. Is active in collagen-containing extracellular matrix. Implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma.
