Description
Enables chromatin DNA binding activity. Involved in heat shock-mediated polytene chromosome puffing; positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; and protein import into nucleus. Located in chromatin and polytene chromosome band. Is expressed in several structures, including adult head; embryonic/larval midgut primordium; head epidermis primordium; mesoderm; and visceral mesoderm derivative. Used to study neurodegenerative disease. Orthologous to human NUP50 (nucleoporin 50).

- nucleoporin 50
Component of the nuclear pore complex that has a direct role in nuclear protein import (By similarity). Actively displaces NLSs from importin-alpha, and facilitates disassembly of the importin-alpha:beta-cargo complex and importin recycling (By similarity). Binds to transcriptionally active chromatin sites when located in the nucleoplasm and is involved in transcriptional activation (PMID: 20144760).
