Description
Predicted to be involved in mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I assembly. Part of respiratory chain complex I. Is expressed in several structures, including Malpighian tubule primordium; adult head; adult heart; embryonic/larval midgut primordium; and gut section. Used to study mitochondrial complex I deficiency. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Leigh disease and nuclear type mitochondrial complex I deficiency 1. Orthologous to human NDUFS4 (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit S4).

- NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase 18 kDa subunit
- NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase 18 kDa subunit
- ND-18-PA
Accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believed not to be involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone.
