Description
Enables calcium ion binding activity. Located in basement membrane and extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including body wall musculature; enteric muscle; head mesodermal cell; pharynx; and reproductive system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in cervix carcinoma; endometrial carcinoma; multiple myeloma; and osteogenesis imperfecta type 17. Orthologous to several human genes including SPARC (secreted protein acidic and cysteine rich).

2 Proteins

2.1 Protein Function

Has a high affinity for collagen. Affects nematode body morphology and mobility. Essential for C.elegans development and muscle function. The cysteine-rich region could have protease inhibitory activity or may provide the framework for a protein binding module. Probable role in skeletal morphogenesis.
