Galactose - Compound Summary (CID 6036)
Also known as: D-Galactopyranose, D-galactose, Galactose, pure, D-(+)-Galactose, D(+)-Galactose, CHEBI:4139, galactopyranose, galactopyranoside, AI3-18440
Molecular Formula: C6H12O6   Molecular Weight: 180.15588   InChIKey: WQZGKKKJIJFFOK-SVZMEOIVSA-N
An aldohexose that occurs naturally in the D-form in lactose, cerebrosides, gangliosides, and mucoproteins. Deficiency of galactosyl-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (GALACTOSE-1-PHOSPHATE URIDYL-TRANSFERASE DEFICIENCY DISEASE) causes an error in galactose metabolism called GALACTOSEMIA, resulting in elevations of galactose in the blood.   From: MeSH
