Compound Summary for: CID 5953

Quinidine

Also known as: Chinidin [German]; Conchinin; Conquinine; (+)-Quinidine; CCRIS 672; beta-Quinine; HSDB 225; GNF-PF-5459; NCI-C56246
Molecular Formula: C20H24N2O2   Molecular Weight: 324.41676   InChIKey: LOUPRKONTZGTKE-NBGVHYBESA-N
An optical isomer of quinine, extracted from the bark of the Cinchona tree and similar plant species. This alkaloid dampens the excitability of cardiac and skeletal muscles by blocking sodium and potassium currents across cellular membranes. It prolongs cellular action potential, and decreases automaticity. Quinidine also blocks muscarinic and alpha-adrenergic neurotransmission.   From: MeSH
