Description:
The Carcinogenic Potency Database (CPDB) is a unique and widely used international resource of the results of over 6500 chronic, long-term animal cancer tests on over 1500 chemical substances. The CPDB provides easy access to the bioassay literature, with qualitative and quantitative analyses of both positive and negative experiments that have been published over the past 50 years in the general literature and by the National Cancer Institute/National Toxicology Program. The CPDB standardizes the diverse literature of cancer bioassays that vary widely in protocol, histopathological examination and nomenclature, and in the published author's choices of what information to provide in their papers. Results are reported in the CPDB for tests in rats, mice, hamsters, dogs, and nonhuman primates, and are based on the most positive result among all experiments for each sex-species. The DSSTox CPDBAS (all species) file incorporates data from the CPDB Summary Tables for the full list of over 1500 chemical substances tested in at least one species. A summary MultiCellCall, based on experimental bioassay results of one or more species, is provided in the DSSTox CPDBAS file (see Source URL) for more than 1150 chemical substances.
Protocol
An assignment of categorical carcinogenic activity based on multicell evidence for or against activity: "active" indicates more than one TD50 or tumor site listed for carcinogenicity sex/species cells (e.g., liver, lung, or Rat Male, Rat Female, Mouse Male, etc), where tumor sites may be reported from different experiments; "inactive" entry indicates no TD50 or tumor site listed AND more than one "no positive results" entry for carcinogenicity sex/species cells (i.e., more than one experiment is in CPDB, but none are positive). Associated TD50 values and tumor site details for the relevant species/sex experiment supporting the overall CPDBAS MultiSiteCall are provided in the full DSSTox CPDBAS file (see Comment) and the corresponding CPDBAS Species Bioassay in PubChem. ActivityScore is computed as follows: multispecies=50, multisex=30, multisite=20, with combination scores computed as sums of these values, e.g. multispecies+multisite=70.

1ActivityOutcome_CPDBAS_MultiCellCall_DetailsDetails pertaining to Activity Outcome: "active" indicates one or more of the following are listed: multisite active = multiple tumor sites reported from different experiments; multisex active = male and female sexes (possibly of different species) tested positive for one or more tumor sites, possibly from different experiments; multispecies active = multiple species (e.g., rat, mouse, etc) tested positive at one or more tumor sites, possibly from different experiments. Activity Outcome "inactive" indicates or more of the following are listed: multisex inactive = no tumor sites reported in any experiment AND more than one "no positive results" entry for male and female sexes (possibly of different species), possibly from different experiments; multispecies inactive = no tumor sites reported in any experiment AND more than one "no positive results" entry for multiple species (e.g., rat, mouse, etc), possibly from different experiments.
